UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE)
The UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) follows a three-stage selection process:
UPSC Exam Stages
The Preliminary Examination (Prelims) is the first stage of the UPSC Civil Services Exam. It’s a qualifying stage designed to shortlist candidates for the Mains exam.
- Two objective-type papers (General Studies & CSAT) are conducted on the same day.
- Marks obtained in the Prelims are **NOT** considered for the final merit list.
The Main Examination (Mains) is the second stage of the UPSC Civil Services Exam. It assesses a candidate’s writing and analytical skills.
- The Mains consists of nine descriptive papers spread over 5-7 days.
- Marks secured in the Mains exam significantly impact the final rank of a candidate.
The Personality Test/Interview is the final stage of the UPSC Civil Services Exam. It evaluates a candidate’s suitability for a career in civil service.
- The interview assesses personality, communication skills, and other relevant traits.
Prelims
The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination (Prelims) is the first stage of the Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in India.
This stage consists of two papers.
- Paper l :General Studies (GS) and
- Paper ll : CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test).
